The West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) Mains Exam is the second stage of the competitive examination process conducted by the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) to recruit candidates for various civil service positions in the state of West Bengal in India. It is held for those candidates who have qualified the WBCS Preliminary Exam.

The WBCS Mains Exam consists of six compulsory papers and two optional papers. The compulsory papers are:

  1. Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali Language
  2. English Language
  3. General Studies I (Indian History and National Movement)
  4. General Studies II (World History and Geography)
  5. Constitution and Indian Polity
  6. Science and Technology

The optional papers are chosen by the candidates from a list of approved subjects. The optional papers are designed to test the candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the subject in depth.

To be eligible to take the WBCS Mains Exam, candidates must have passed the WBCS Preliminary Exam and meet certain educational and age requirements. They must also be physically fit and of good character.
